Autism and Adulthood - Navigating a Course of Possibilities

This Roundtable discussion will feature an array of topics: planning to person-centered living, preparing for a career interest (i.e., employment, college), or designing self employment. Artistic talents will also be highlighted. Creating art can deepen emotional self awareness, empathy, and motivation in areas of personal and social capability. The ultimate goal is to ensure self-determination, community inclusion, and pursuing life with meaning and purpose.

Dr. Jacquelyn Marquette, Ph.D.

Dr. Jacquelyn Marquette is an autism specialist, consultant, author, researcher, and creator of the Capability Approach as it relates to vocation, life goals, and interdependent living. She has a Ph.D. from University of Louisville, Foundations. Since 1998 she has been in private practice consulting on behalf of persons with autism. Marquette's son, Trent Altman, is an internationally recognized artist and has autism. Altman is an 4 time international award winning artist.

Carolyn Gammicchia

Carolyn Gammicchia has been active within a variety of advocacy efforts for the last two decades. Having grown up with a sibling with a disability, she is the proud parent of two sons, one who has autism, she is a Partners in Policymaking 2002 graduate, has served on local, state, and federal level boards of disability representative organizations, while also supporting other families and collaborating with professionals. She currently is the Executive Director of L.E.A.N. On Us, an she co-founded in 2002
