Biomedical Issues From An Autistic Perspective: How Do We Experience Them?

Much research has shown that individuals with autism experience biomedical issues and symptoms as a part of their autism. But what does it feel like to endure those biomedical issues as a person with autism? In this presentation, two adults with autism will share the internal perspective of what it feels like to endure biomedical issues with autism. They will also talk about their experiences advocating for others' biomedical issues throughout their lives.

James Williams

James Williams was diagnosed with autism in 1991, at the age of 3. He is the beneficiary of multiple therapies and biomedical interventions. Today he travels the U.S. as a presenter on autism. In addition, he is the author of two novels related to autism, OUT TO GET JACK, and THE HAL EXPERIMENT.

Ruth Snyder

Ruth Snyder was diagnosed with autism as a child. At the time, the only treatment option for her was institutional care, and her diagnosis was not discussed until her son was diagnosed. Today, she is an author, and a Registered Nurse that specializes in high-risk pregnancy and natural childbirth, and the mother of four children, two of which are diagnosed with autism. She believes bio-medical understanding and discussions are essential for successful autism advocacy.
