Endocannabinoids and the Endocrine System - A Pathway to Preventing Autism?

In past presentations, Botha has focused on the complex relationship between exogenous hormones and health outcomes in women. She has also shared research on emerging data leading to suppression of the brain due to hormonal contraception and its potential effect on the developing fetus - perhaps increasing the risk of autism. In the past year, researchers have proven what has always been suspected - that aluminum toxicity is directly implicated in neurological disorders. Is it possible that the accumulative effect of aluminum stearate in birth control may also be implicated? Botha is now focused on methods of healing the cellular damage to the neuro-endocrine-immune system prior to pregnancy. She will present research on endocannabinoid intracellular mechanisms that modulate neuroendocrine actions. Research shows that CBD improves nerve synapse communication while reducing inflammation observed in neurological and in gynecological disorders that may be setting up pathways for ASD during fetal development.

Leslie Carol Botha, WHE, is a women’s health educator, consultant, and an internationally recognized expert on hormones and behaviors. Her seminal work focuses on the importance of circadian endocrine rhythm function. Botha is the co-author of Understanding Your Mind, Mood, and Hormone Cycle - a member of the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research, and an advisory board member for the Cycles Research Institute.
