Molecular characterization of IBD in ASD children

The concept of chronic gastrointestinal symptoms in ASD children has long been a topic of discussion and debate in the field of pediatric gastroenterology. Although some, but not all, ASD children with GI complaints clearly exhibit symptoms associated with classic inflammatory bowel disease, diagnostic tools and treatment options for this population are still evolving. This talk will address the question: what useful information have we learned via the molecular characterization of biospecimens from ASD children with ileocolitis?

Dr. Walker is a geneticist and molecular/developmental biologist. His research focuses on the use of genomic and bioinformatic tools for the evaluation of specimens, derived from patients and control individuals, to better understand disease processes and to identify molecular signatures for immediate diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
