Today I Cried. #FAY Feel Autism Yet?

Let's just say I am not a really emotional person outwardly. There are times when my wife would say I am devoid of emotion. I think it is a source of pride that I am usually even keeled and not much knocks me off center in this Roller Coaster life dealing with Autism.. Todays events though knocked me for a loop and I Cried.

I am not sure if I cried for myself, for the person involved, for our children, Christianity or the Human Race. Maybe you can help me decide. I will not bore my regular readers by giving my resume... That can be found at http://www.linkedin.com/in/tannersdadtimwelsh or Googling TannersDad and Autism. Suffice it to say I am genuine, All the boy scout things ( Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly Curteous... etc ) at least I try. Proud Husband, Father, business owner and Sales Person. Hopefully my work for almost the last 10 years in the public domain demonstrates my heart is in the right place.

I am very proud of our work on the Mason Alert system at www.MasonAlert.org. Soon we will have Education, Awareness, Software, and alert system in place to help prevent wandering Tragedies. Sheila Medlam is a Hero. I am proud to serve on her board of directors. In less than 100 days we have moved mountains and put in place things that will save lives.

With all that said, it is on with todays stories. To get health insurance for my family, I sell copiers as a day job. If you know anything about copiers it is very competitive environment. People only expend energy to look for a new system about every five years and do as little work as humanly possible because it is stressful. So generally speaking, My job is an information gatherer. Over the many years in sales I have come to learn some of the meanest environments for a salesman is a church. Nobody is paid well, You have to have a lot of faith, and a board makes most of the major decisions. So most of the time things get passed around.

Somewhere at some point in time I talk about my Autism advocacy. Sometimes sooner. Sometimes later. Well today I brought it up to a minister a little sooner because he was rushing out the door to a luncheon. I talk about www.MasonAlert.org I talk about being a Rescue Angel for www.GenerationRescue.org and I share my Contact information which usually is summed up by saying google TannersDad and Autism.

This Minister today came out swinging yelling at me that it was disingenuous to use bleeding heart Autism as a tool to line my pockets. Well yes, I do have a kind of fancy Volvo Station wagon but it is over 16 years old and over 200,000 miles ... value about $800 No AC and many redlights on the dash. I asked him is it not appropriate to talk about our mission work in the mission field? He quipped a smart remark. He got in his car and was rolling up his window. I just said to him, It is amazing how mean churches can be. He sped off into the distance.

I went back to my car and cried.

It may have been that I watched Parenthood and saw how Adam blew up and punched the guy insulting his son with Aspergers at the grocery store. It could have been that I got a rough start and left my power cord to the lap top at the office. Maybe I am too tough on myself and some days we just need to cry.

Well today I did.

I am just thankful for the love and support I get from my Family Friends Community and hugs from Tanner. I am going to take time of now just to love him. Have a great day. If ever you need to vent. I am here. TannersDad Tim
