Vitamin B12, methionine synthase activity and thiol metabolite status in the brain in autism
Dr. Deth will present recent findings of low levels of vitamin B12, methionine synthase activity and thiol metabolite status in the brain in autism, schizophrenia and aging. The influence of gluten and casein-derived opiate peptides on redox and methylation status and their epigenetic effects will also be discussed. The underlying mechanisms for these results will be reviewed in the context of the Redox/Methylation Hypothesis of Autism.
Richard C. Deth
Dr. Richard Deth is a molecular neuroscientist at Northeastern University and Florida Atlantic University. His research interests include the regulation of methylation reactions by oxidative stress and epigenetic control over gene expression in neuronal cells and brain, particularly in relation to autism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease.
