New Evidence Associating Thimerosal-Containing Vaccines and other Childhood Vaccines with Autism Spectrum Disorder

This presentation will critically review the latest scientific evidence associating Thimerosal (mercury)-containing vaccines and other childhood vaccines with an increased risk of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis. Information will be presented regarding epidemiological assessments of the public Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database and the restricted access Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) database. Attendees will gain a clear perspective regarding the ASD-vaccine link.

Mark R. Geier, MD, PhD, FACE

Dr. Geier is a MD with a PhD in genetics, and is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology. Dr. Geier was a researcher at the National Institutes of Health for 10 years, and was previously a professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and at the Uniformed School of the Health Sciences. Dr. Geier has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific/medical articles, book chapters, and other publications.

David A. Geier, BA

Mr. Geier has a BA in Biology with a minor in History. Mr. Geier has been involved for more than 10 years in extensive research examining environmental factors linked to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the underlying biochemistry of ASD. Mr. Geier has published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific/medical articles, book chapters, and other publications.

For many years there has been a lot of discussion of the possible causative effects of the childhood vaccines. Much of the focus of past years has been on the issue of thimerosal, a preservative agent used in the vaccines. I think one of the main confusions at this point is the apparent inability of those viewing the argument, from either side, to separate the issues of thimerosal and the 'vaccines' themselves.

HPV vaccines and cancer prevention, science versus fiction

The rationale behind current worldwide HPV vaccination programs starts from two basic premises: 1) that HPV vaccines will prevent cervical cancers and save lives, and 2) have no risk of serious side effects. Therefore, efforts should be made to get as many pre-adolescent girls vaccinated. Careful analysis of HPV vaccine pre- and post-licensure data shows, however, that both of these premises are at odds with factual evidence and are largely derived from gross misinterpretation of available data.

Lucija Tomljenovic holds a PhD in biochemistry and is currently a senior research fellow at the University of British Columbia School of Medicine in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her research focuses on neuro- and immuno-toxicity of vaccines. In particular, Tomljenovic investigates mechanisms by which vaccines and their ingredients may induce neurological and autoimmune diseases.

Tracking aluminum in the body: Biopersistence and migration of aluminic adjuvants of vaccines

Aluminum is incriminated in numerous pathologies. To study the toxicity of alum, Al(OH)3 (alum) a compound contained in vaccine adjuvants, used to increase immune response, we address the fate of vaccine alum after intramuscular injection in mice. Alum coupled with fluorescent nanodiamonds has specific and perfectly photostable fluorescence with specificities comparable to the whole reference vaccine (anti-hepatitis B vaccine). Tagging alum allows tracking and studying its biodisposition and neurotranslocation.

Josette Cadusseau, Pr, PhD

Dr. Cadusseau's research has focused on cell interactions in CNS, more particularly to glial cells and inflammatory processes in various models of neurodegeneration. Her current research focus is on understanding the mechanisms of alum neuotoxicity in rodent models of macrophages myofasciitis (MMF), a condition associated with immunization using vaccines adjuvanted with aluminum. Dr. Cadusseau and team developed several projects studying biodistribution and biopersistence of alum throughout the body in MMF animal models.
