My Buddies
What is Sensory Processing Disorder? and what is all this talk about how OT's work with Sensory Integration with children? As an occupational therapist I see children every day that have been diagnosed somewhere on the autism spectrum, or with sensory issues as well as Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, developmental delays and many other disabilities as well.

A Little About Me:

I'm a mom of a beautiful boy who has autism as well as sensory processing issues. He's my world and I've turned my life and career into helping my child and other families.

Why I am a Part of the AutismOne Community:

Autism One conferences are hands down the best in the Autism community. I have learned so much there and continue to learn when I return home with their cds and dvds. We started the GF/CF diet after their last conference and it's been wonderful for my child. The people in the Autism One community are like minded and we are fighters for our children. We will make a difference and we will never stop.

What I am Here For:
Community. Support. Friendship. To learn. To help others.
Autism Help / Accomplishments:

My son is my biggest accomplishment! He inspired me to create and produce Occupational Therapy DVDs for parents, caregivers and educators. Britt Collins, M.S., OTR/L is my business partner and friend. She worked with my son for four years and is an absolute dream with children. She is passionate about her work and we will work together to help others for life. Together we have also written our first book, "Sensory Parenting: Newborns and Toddlers." www.SensoryParenting.com

How I Am Involved To Help The Community:
Britt and I started a non-profit, Special Needs United, which supplies Occupational Therapy to those that can't afford it. We also provide therapy equipment to those in need. www.specialneedsunited.org
Activities:
Any time spent with my family. We love to go to the beach, movies, and on adventures. As Southern California residents, there is much to find and much to do. You'll often find us at Disneyland or taking a weekend road trip to Solvang to see the Ostrich farm and miniature horses.
Books / Magazines:
The Out of Syn Child, Raising a Sensory Smart Child, When Listening Comes Alive, currently reading Jane McGonigal's "Reality is Broken" on video games. My book - Sensory Parenting.
Personal Heroes:
I do love Jenny McCarthy and am grateful for her message and her bringing autism awareness to a new level.
