About Me

Name
Mary Romaniec
Age
15 years
Location
A Little About Me:

Here is what is on my website www.maryromaniec.com

When Mary Romaniec’s son, Daniel, was diagnosed with autism she soon learned how little the medical community understood about this disorder, which is now claiming 1in 150 children in the United States. Driven by a sense of urgency Mary began long nights of researching the internet, speaking with other parents and attending conferences that discussed ways to treat autism. Treat autism? Yes, the common notion given by the established medical community is that autism is not treatable. Meanwhile a legion of parents has discovered how wrong the medical community has been on this subject. Contrary to the wide-spread myth that children cannot be treated successfully for autism, Mary Romaniec, was able to unlock the door that lead to her son losing his autism diagnosis and declared recovered by the age of four.

Why I am a Part of the AutismOne Community:

I became a part of Autism One during its inception year when I happened to call Ed Arranga to ask him details about the first conference. During that conversation I identified myself as a parent mentor to other families who had children recovering from autism. That conversation lead to many more conversations where Ed would ask me to speak to one parent or another to ease them on their journey to seeking help for their children too. Now Ed has asked me to do this blog, and I am thrilled.

What I am Here For:
My message in the blogs will mostly about "care for the caregiver". All members of the family are impacted by the autism diagnosis yet the caregiver parents are often ignored to the detriment of their health. I submit that caregiver parents are the next crisis in this epidemic, after years of unrelenting stress and neglect of their own health. It's time to start clanging the warning bell on this issue!
Autism Help / Accomplishments:

I'm not sure what should go in this part except as it relates to autism successes. So I will just put here that my son, Daniel, is now 10 and fully recovered from autism.

My Daily Motivations:

Every day I wake up and THANK GOD for the blessing of my family. Looking at what we did to help Daniel gives me a greater sense of awe and gratitude. So daily, yes daily, I ask God to guide me on this journey to ensure I reach out to the next person in some form or fashion. For years it was one on one mentoring parents. Now it is my book "Autism is Treatable." And daily I repeat the words "My book will sell a lot of copies because it is meant to help a lot of people." How's that for motivation?

Goals:
Publish "Autism is Treatable: Empowering parents to make decisions that benefit their child with autism--without losing the sanity of the parent! And help folks via this blog spot about issues for which they may be unaware.
Help Needed:
When the time comes, I would like your help to spread the word about the book.
Help to Give:

I will be available to answer questions on a variety of issues related to autism. I'm a whiz at IEP issues too.

Activities:
Being with my kids and traveling places.
Hobbies:
Same as above.
Books / Magazines:
Very much into anything inspirational.
Quotes:
"To whom much is given, much will be expected." I never forget this when I thank God for the gift of a recovered child.
Music:
Whatever my kids put on the radio.
TV Shows:
TV? Like I ever get to watch what I want. Who has the time any way!
Movies:
Loved Sound of Music. Favorite line: "When God closes the door, somewhere he opens a window." Loved Ben Hur: Favorite line: "We keep you alive to serve this ship. Row well, and live." Something karmic about those two lines, wouldn't you say?
Inspirational Spots:
Any where outdoors in nice weather. Although I love New England all year long.
Personal Heroes:
Margaret Thatcher for her strength during crisis. Every parent battling autism with strength during crisis. Lisa Ackerman for her continuous courage and passioned focus. Ed and Teri Arranga for their constant generosity and gift of compassion.
