A Little About Me:

Hi my name is Pam. My husband and I have been married for 23 years and we have 2 beautiful and intelligent daughters. We love to spend family time together boating in the summer and skiing in the winter. Both Dave and I are ski coaches with Special Olympics of Washington. We find get joy and pleasure in being a part of a unique and special group of people.

Why I am a Part of the AutismOne Community:

14 years ago we welcomed a bundle of joy into our family. Addie was a great baby. She slept all the time. She rarely cried and I remember feeling so lucky that I was able to get 7 hours of sleep the first night she was born. Her sleeping habits didn't change much over the next year. In fact, her sleeping increased. Most of her baby pictures are of her asleep and/or sucking her thumb. Addie didn't like to be cuddled nor did she coo and and look into my eyes when I feed her. When she was 15 months old our world seemed to change. She woke up from her nap and life for our family was never the same again. We struggled for so many years with her and at 9 years old she was diagnoised as high functioning autistic. We have come so far since the early years of her life and the strain it put on our family. Addie is now a very well adjusted 14 yr. old girl. She is unique, funny (adult humor), matter of fact, dependable, reliable, and consistant with everything she does. She is like the North Star -

What I am Here For:

Quotes:
Nelson Madela's 1994 Inaguration Speech “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
