I don't know who you have to (BLEEP)!!!

I don't know who you have to (BLEEP) to get a good autism school in your community??? Please point them out to me!!! I was once told that my child was to aggressive for their precious school. They only take the well behaved children with autism. WTF???? The government ruins your child than they turn their backs on you and they will not admit it. WTH??? When are they going to wake up and supply our kids with adequate help?? You may ask yourself they should have to at least compensate you if not provide transportation. You have a right to an appropriate education! But No!!! They know you have to hire a lawyer to fight them. None of us have the time or money!! And they know it!! So, they get away with it. They should have good autism schools in every community!! But, they never will, our kids are not that important. Sadly!! Why should a child have to drive a hour and a half to school and back everyday?? Normal kids don't?? Why are we made to hide our disabled child at a school hours away from their home?? Then, I get the call from the school saying come right away your child is mad and biting people?? I tell them "see you in two hours"??? I live near CHICAGO and there is a school everywhere you turn but, not for children with autism. No matter how you slice it, it SUCKS!!!!!

Pay and pention cuts

I still would love for my child not to have to drive a hour and a half to school and back everyday. State employees and legislators should start taking a 20% pay and pention cut until there is a good autism school in every community. Than schools would go up fast!!!

(BLEEPED)!!!!

P.S. I'm not sure it would help of hurt the situation if I (BLEEPED) someone??? lol

Schools

I had to fight to get my son in Special education. Arm yourself with documents! Does you child have an IEP? Also, you will find great information on FAPE, LRE at Wrightslaw.com "free, appropriate public education “(FAPE) your child is entitled to under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” They have to pay for placement if public school is not possible.

They got you.

They have to pay but, they will fight you till your bankrupt!! Than you can't live in their school district anyway. They got you.

What Happened???

Wow, I had no idea. I guess my situation is different in that Gabe can not function in public school, even with aids and services in place. He needs a great deal of prompting, redirection and requires to be in a setting that addresses social and emotional needs.

What happened in our country? When did our disadvantaged kids become so unable to get help? These Children can improve however, few, if any can do it alone.

$$$$$

$$$ is much more important to them than our kids getting better. They figure they will end up in a institution anyway so why bother. We interviewed Sandee Winkelman you should listen if you get a chance. Very interesting!!

The "ignore-it" theory

I really empathize with your situation, I have been through some of the same things. I find it difficult to know the public is so ignorant/ ignore-it to what our kids are being put through. During a “meltdown” I look like I’m kidnapping a child as I carry him out of wherever we are. I’ve never had anyone ask if they could help but I’ve gotten plenty “what a bratty child”, “she is an awful parent” ect.. Looks. Truth is Superwomen doesn’t live at this address but I think we do the very best we can.

Awareness is so important.

That's so true. I have had many of those moments here's one. Candace was screaming at the park one day and two moms came up to her and kept asking her if someone was hurting her? I think they thought I was, I was right next to her. Finally, I told them she is non-verbal and has autism. They looked stunned, like a deer in the headlights for awhile and said OK and walked away. Awareness is so important.
