Balance...

In today's society I think balance is something we all struggle with! Then you add autism or aspergers into the mix, a couple of children, it only makes it all the more difficult. But it can be done! A few suggestions that worked for me.

I personally worked part time hours inside my home. I hired girls in 6th and 7th grade to babysit, (they seem to be more interested in babysitting at this age) three days a week and enforced strict routines and rules for them to follow through with.

Then, I scheduled time in the early morning, before my husband went to work to exercise at a health club, this is where I socialized. I tryed very hard to stick with that routine!

Hope this helps you out with your own situation, I know every one is different....

Hello Krysia,

Let me extend to you my personal welcome to our AutismOne Social Network. AutismOne is now the “one-stop-shopping center” for information about autism. We have the annual conference in Chicago, AutismOne radio, the Elizabeth Birt Center for Autism Law and Advocacy and now the AutismOne Social Network (and more to come).
Thank you for filling in your profile entries as these help people with common interests find you. I see that you struggle with many of the same feelings that most parents have when it comes to their children . I can ensure you that connections can be found here, when you reach out to other members.
Helping you interact with others is one of the many things we can do for you. Now here’s something you can do for us. Every new community requires a good hard kick start to get going. We need you to help us with that. Log in on a regular basis and read the blogs and articles then write a blog yourself. It can be on any subject of interest to you, preferably with some relevance to autism but not necessarily. It can be short or long, whatever it takes for you to express your thoughts. If you have a question then ask it in a blog--people read then they respond. If you see something with which you agree or disagree then please add a comment with your thoughts. This is an open community designed to help and support. We like to hear all sides.
I am looking forward to reading your opinions in future blogs and/or articles.
With my best regards
Will Price, CFO

A Little About Me:

I'm finding it hard to balance everything...a common story for most of us. I want to work to interact with adults but it's focused on autism and I'm wondering if that's good for me. I want to help others and because I'm in the "thick of it" I can relate well to those I'm serving. Anyway, my middle son is almost 7, in 1st grade and the one with a diagnosis. My oldest is displaying Asperger's like tendencies and we just started OT due to gross motor planning issues. My youngest is now in school (started Kindergarten) and typically developing. I want to be available equally to each of the boys' classrooms but of course the support my middle son needs outweighs the needs of the other two. Ugh!!! I'm actually considering resigning so that I can concentrate full time on the educational and social aspect of my boys' lives but the money sure is necessary. What to do? What to do? (Deep breath) So I keep plugging away and hope that the frenetic pace at which I live my life pays off in the end. Just hope I don't lose my sanity or sabotage my marriage!

Why I am a Part of the AutismOne Community:

I am here to relate to others who "get it." Give and receive advice and tips.

What I am Here For:
I have also started a support group in my community and don't have any training so I thought that I could get some ideas and tips from this community. We meet monthly and about one-third of the meetings we have speakers on a variety of topics (i.e. Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans; Back to School advice from a mom of a high schooler with autism; Special Needs financial planning, etc.). I have a web page for it www.magic4ourkids.ning.com.
Autism Help / Accomplishments:

My son who might have Aspergers really hates doing anything physical and so trying to get him to do the OT exercises is such a battle. We're also doing Therapeutic Listening only 20mins/day but supposed to be doing it 40 mins./day. I'm so frustrated with him. His other two brothers also get in the way and always seem to need my attention when I need to focus on getting these exercises done.

My Daily Motivations:

Sticking to a routine for my kids sakes, support systems like the couple of support groups I belong to, friends, work, the needs of my kids, cash to pay for therapies.

Goals:
I would like to manage my time better and not feel like I'm behind, forgetting to do something or that I just have too much to do.
Help Needed:
Not sure. Probably everything!
Help to Give:

Advice from experience and resources I know about.
