Book Review The Age of Autism Mercury, Medicine, and a Manmade Epidemic

My name is Tim Welsh I have been an advocate for change in the Autism community for about six years I usually post as TannersDad. I have lived breathed smelled touched felt seen heard and spoken about the Autism crisis for about 8 years. I blog, tweet, speak & fight for rights, action, attention, support, Services, & Answers. I have seen advancement on all fronts except one. The Last one Answers. Until Now.
At the end of every speech, conversation, twitter or facebook interaction I was left with the feeling that no matter how much that I studied, all ended with a question and the statement we just do not know. Well in September that all changes.Dan Olmsted & Mark Blaxill have done something so practical it seems to me strange that it has not been done before. These two are businessmen & Journalists. I have come to know them over the years from interactions at AutismOne conference & conversations at the Age of Autism Daily newspaper website. Sorry guys, But you two are no rocket Scientists. That is why it seems strange that these are the two that tell us the story from square one & before. The good news is they tell it with such convincing empathy, detail, passion, & Volume that there is no longer an argument. The world changes in September.
The book is divided into 10 chapters and two parts. Part One: The Roots and Part Two: The Rise. Then an Epilogue, eerily titled the Nightmare & the Dream.The Roots portion of the book explores some of the connections & uses of Mercury in our past. It examines the result of those uses. I have to admit that I had to wonder at first why I was reading about Syphilis, Hysteria, Acrodynia, Pollution, and Tooth Powder. The gentlemen weave the story with dedication to detail and draw you in. Through the first half of the book no judgement is past. They let the characters come to life and use many quotes from the Patients & Practitioners of the time..
The second half Dan & Mark explore the origin & History of Autism. They travel down every course of discourse I have had in the last years. This book will be the Bible of those advocates asking for support. I am just a simple Dad in the middle of a bean field in down state Illinois. I was able to hold my own in every conversation I have had about Autism. This book though gives me the tools, words, & Basis to go face to face with any individual, professional or pundit. I have a renewed sense of confidence that my vision of Resolution to this crisis is just around the corner.
Writing a book review is difficult because I dearly want to dive in and tell the story. There are twists & turns that connect every loose end. I was so thankful that the authors took the time to give the background in the first half of the book. I will close with this book you should not only want to buy, Everyone you know should be given a copy. This book will change the world as we know it . As I tweeted when I first was reading the book. If President Barack Obama in any way deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, it is not good enough to give to these two. Thank You Dan & Mark.

What can you do today...

If you are a parent... Love your child unconditionally. Do not let your child feel they are any less because they cannot communicate the way we do or look after themselves. Do not forget to look after yourself and your significant other. ( If you don't have one find one...There is someone out there for everyone. You deserved to be loved also). Join a church. Speak to your friends. Keep up the good fight.

If you are Friend... If you have resources please consider supporting Generation Rescue as they move the agenda towards services and support programs. If you do not have financial resources provide respite services... Babysit, go with a parent to the grocery store, or running errands. Be there to listen.

If you are in the medical community it is time to wake up and do something...
If you are in the insurance industry it is time to make the people responsible pay...
if you are in the media it time to tell the truth...
If you are in the government it is time act...
If you are in education it is time to educate...
If you are in a religious community it is time to rally the troops to support families...
